Heartless Move By ABC

“Good Morning America” co-anchor Lara Spencer is weathering reports that some ABC staffers are “relieved” that she’ll appear less frequently on the daily program.

It was recently announced that Spencer is now slated for three appearances per week instead of five, which was publicly chalked up to Spencer’s interest in developing her lifestyle brand. However, the behind-the-scenes narrative is less flattering, according to Page Six.

The announcement of Spencer’s reduced screen time was allegedly met with some relief for employees.

“Staff are relieved that Lara’s schedule is being cut back,” one insider claims. “She treats staff badly, she yells at people and she makes a lot of extra work for people.”

Alleged personality clashes aside, it appears that the primary reason for the shakeup was not Spencer’s decision, but instead an ABC effort to determine an anchor lineup that best boosts ratings.

“Lara’s good at her job,” another insider tells the outlet, “but it’s not like the [ratings] are affected when she’s not on [the show].”

Spencer has been with the show since 1999, so it seems unlikely that she’ll suddenly depart — but it’s possible that 2018 will simply be a year of big changes for her. In addition to building her production company, Spencer, 48, got engaged in January and is expected to tie the knot in the coming months.
